LITHIUM BATTERY SAFETY NOTICE

Lithium Battery Safety Notice

Lithium battery systems are high‑energy electrical products. When installed or used incorrectly, they can cause fire, explosion, electric shock, burns, serious injury or death, as well as significant damage to vehicles and property. By purchasing, installing or using any lithium battery kit from MORE 4x4, you acknowledge these risks and agree to follow all safety information provided.

Intended use and general responsibilities

Our lithium battery kits are designed for use in vehicles and related applications, within the specifications and configurations described in our product documentation and installation guides.
You are responsible for:

  • Ensuring that any installation, wiring, mounting and use of our products is safe and suitable for your vehicle and intended application.
  • Complying with all applicable laws, regulations, standards and guidelines relating to automotive and electrical work in your jurisdiction.
  • Regularly inspecting the installation for damage, loose connections, overheating, or other signs of malfunction and taking immediate corrective action if any issue is observed.

Installation – qualified persons strongly recommended

Working with high‑current DC systems and lithium batteries carries significant electrical and fire risk. We strongly recommend that:

  • Installation and/or inspection is carried out by a licensed auto electrician or suitably qualified person experienced with 12V systems, vehicle modifications and lithium battery technology.
  • All wiring, fusing, circuit protection, cable sizing, terminations, and mounting methods are selected and installed in accordance with industry best practice and applicable standards.
  • Any integration with existing vehicle electrical systems, chargers, DC‑DC units, inverters, or auxiliary accessories is designed and checked by a suitably qualified professional.

If you choose to install the kit yourself, you must ensure you have the skills, tools and knowledge to do so safely. If you are unsure at any stage, stop work and seek advice from a qualified professional.

Critical safety guidelines

When working with and using lithium battery kits, always observe the following:

  • Isolate power before working on any wiring or connections. Never work on live circuits.
  • Use appropriate PPE, such as safety glasses and insulated tools, when making or breaking connections.
  • Follow polarity carefully. Reverse polarity or short circuits can cause immediate damage, arcing, or fire.
  • Provide correct fusing and protection. Every positive circuit must be adequately fused as close to the battery as practical.
  • Ensure secure mounting. Batteries and associated hardware must be securely mounted to withstand vehicle motion, vibration and impact, and must not be able to move, chafe wiring or contact metal surfaces.
  • Allow adequate ventilation and clearances as specified in the installation guide. Do not install near heat sources, flammable materials, or in locations exposed to water ingress.
  • Use only compatible chargers and devices approved by the manufacturer, and never bypass or modify the BMS (Battery Management System) or other protective devices.
  • Do not modify the kit components (including BMS, enclosure, wiring, connectors, or protection devices) unless explicitly approved in writing by MORE 4x4.
  • Stop using immediately if you notice swelling, unusual smells, smoke, excessive heat, discoloration, or any other abnormal behaviour. Disconnect safely and seek professional assistance.

Charging and handling

  • Never charge batteries with damaged, incorrect or unapproved chargers.
  • Do not leave charging systems unattended in unsafe environments, and avoid charging in confined spaces where a fire would be difficult to control.
  • Keep batteries away from open flames, sparks, and high‑temperature sources.
  • Do not puncture, crush, disassemble, or incinerate batteries.
  • Keep batteries and installations out of reach of children and untrained persons.

Misuse, modification and non‑compliant installation

Misuse, modification or non‑compliant installation of lithium battery kits significantly increases the risk of failure, fire and personal injury. Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Bypassing or modifying the BMS, fusing, or other protection devices.
  • Using inappropriate cable sizes, connectors or terminations.
  • Installing in locations that are exposed to excessive heat, mechanical damage, water or contamination.
  • Combining the kit with third‑party components that are incompatible or outside the specified operating parameters.

Such misuse or non‑compliant installation may void any warranty offered on the product and may affect our ability to provide support.

Nothing on this page replaces the need to read and follow the specific installation instructions, product manuals and safety information supplied with each kit. Those documents contain important, product‑specific requirements that must be followed.

By purchasing, installing or using our lithium battery products, you acknowledge and accept:

  • That you understand the inherent risks of working with high‑energy electrical systems and lithium battery technology.
  • That you are responsible for making sure any installation or modification is carried out safely and in compliance with all applicable laws and standards.
  • That MORE 4x4 cannot control the conditions under which products are installed or used, and therefore cannot guarantee safety where instructions are not followed or products are misused or modified.

To the extent permitted by law, MORE 4x4’s responsibility is limited to the product itself (for example, repair or replacement as set out in our warranty and Terms & Conditions), and does not extend to indirect or consequential losses such as vehicle damage, property damage, loss of data, or loss of profits. Your statutory rights remain unaffected where they cannot be excluded.

If you are unsure

If you are not confident in your ability to install or work with lithium battery systems safely, or if you have any doubts about your specific vehicle or setup:

  • Do not proceed with installation or modification.
  • Contact a licensed auto electrician or suitably qualified professional.
  • Reach out to MORE 4x4 for general product guidance (we cannot provide legal or regulatory advice).

Your safety, and the safety of your passengers and property, depends on careful planning, correct installation and responsible use. Take the time to get it right and involve qualified professionals where needed.
